The Do’s and Don'ts When Choosing a Wedding Gown Every Bride Should Know

Planning your wedding is one of the most exciting yet challenging moments that you will experience. There are a lot of things to organize and to think about and one of those is your wedding dress. One of the most important and special memories that you will have from your wedding, is your gown. It holds a special place in your heart as it symbolizes one of the happiest moments of your life.

That is why brides usually take a long time to decide which gown to pick. They do consider a lot of things before having a final decision about what gown to wear on their special day. Aside from the design, there are other factors that brides should consider when choosing their wedding dress. But there is nothing to worry about because Azaria Bridals got you covered!

To help brides pick the best and most stunning gown, we listed some do’s and don’ts that they should remember when looking for their wedding dress.

#1 Do try as many wedding dresses as you want and need

Almost every gown can look gorgeous in a hanger but looks different when you wear it. That is why you should try as many gowns as you can to see which one fits you well. You can ask opinions from your fiance or family which one looks best on you.

Do not just pick a gown because it caught your attention when looking for an option. Make sure to try all of the options you have. Pick your top choices then fit them again before you make a final decision which gowns to choose. Remember that this is going to be your special day so you must pick a gown that will make you the most beautiful girl on your wedding day.

#2 Do research before going to boutiques

Do you have any preferred designs of a gown in mind? Better do a research first before you go to boutiques or wedding shops so that you can cut some time looking for designs that you want. Search your preferred look ahead of time and save it in your wishlists or favorites so that when you visit a boutique, you just have to show a picture to the seamstress and ask them to help you find something similar to what you like.

#3 Do wear well-fitted undergarments when trying on gowns

If possible, wear the undergarments  that you will use on your wedding day when trying on gowns. This is important because you will not be able to do last-minute adjustments on the day of your wedding and you would not want to feel uncomfortable because you are wearing a different set of undergarments on the day you fit the gown and on your wedding day.

As much as possible, wear nude and seamless undergarments as it will help with the fit of the gown and for you to get a good sense of your body when fitting.

#4 Do bring a camera when fitting gowns

You might not remember all of the gowns you have fitted in a day so to make sure you can keep track of all choices you had so far, bring a camera with you and take a photo for every gown you fit. However, not all bridal shops allow taking of photos inside so call the boutique first and ask if you can take a photo of the gown that you will fit. If not, you can ask them to send you a photo of the designs you liked so that you can have a record of it and use it when making your final decision on which one to pick.

#5 Don’t wait until the last minute before looking for a gown

Among other things that you need to prepare for your wedding, looking for a gown must be your top priority. The reason for that is because it usually takes 3 to 5 months before you can get it if you had it customized. If you bought it and had it adjusted, it takes 1 to 2 months before it can be delivered to you.

With that time frame, you cannot get the assurance that you’ll have your gown in time for your wedding. That is why avoid fitting gowns last minute because you might not get the best wedding dress that you want. Remember that this is your special day and nothing can make you more beautiful than wearing your dream wedding dress while walking the aisle.

#6 Don’t bring a lot of people when fitting a gown

It is best to have your family with you when fitting a gown. There is no need to bring your whole wedding squad. Give them a surprise on your wedding day with the gown that you chose. Don’t spoil them too much with all the details. Also, it is better to have a smaller number of people to give you advice about which gown is better because getting a lot of opinions might confuse you more.

Bring with you the person that you trust the most. It can be your mom, your sister, or your best friend. Having someone who already had the experience of getting married can help a lot. They can give you tips on what to consider when choosing a gown so you can feel comfortable on your wedding day.

#7 Do not enter a boutique without a budget and preferred design in mind

While it is important to keep an open mind when choosing a wedding gown, you will feel more assured when you already have a direction on what design you wanted to have. Before booking an appointment, keep a record of all the styles you want to and let the designers look at it so they can give you a piece of advice as well.

Aside from the design, it is also important that you already have an estimated budget on how much you would want to spend on your wedding gown. You can always adjust the whole budget of your wedding if needed but it is always better to stick to your original plans to avoid any financial worries while preparing for your wedding.

Choosing a gown is more than just the looking for the perfect design. It takes a lot of considerations to get the most elegant and stunning wedding gown that you will ever see.

Once you have found the one, get ready to walk down the aisle full of confidence and glamour knowing that you have picked the right gown for your wedding day. You will surely fall in love with your top pick all over again!
